Some cigars impress. Others leave a mark. And then there’s the Partagás Serie D No. 4 — a cigar so consistently excellent, it earns a spot in the Perfection Club. Sometimes, the first Cuban cigar that opens the gates to the Cuban Cigar world. It’s the benchmark for Cuban robustos, the kind of smoke that cigar lovers return to again and again for one simple reason: it delivers. Every. Single. Time.

I was in the Bahamas for my Honeymoon recently, and brought back a few sticks I bought from the T2 Cigar Lounge at Baha Mar for my Brother-in-law. (Fair Prices)

He kindly accepted the bag of goodies and said, "I love these, they are some of my favorites!" For good reason. I concur. They weren't cheap, but he's a Doctor, who smokes cigars, and a generous family man. Of course I had to splurge for him.

First Light & Initial Flavor

From the first spark, the D4 makes its presence known. There's that unmistakable Cuban Essence — a mix of earthy richness and floral undertones that's impossible to replicate. There is really nothing like a Cuban Cigar. The climate, the soil, the water, the Cuban flare. Just perfect. The initial flavors bring a balance of cedar, toasted tobacco, and white pepper, all wrapped in a smooth, creamy texture that fills the palate with an unforgettable aroma.

Flavor Development

As the cigar develops into the second third, everything deepens. There’s a dark roasted coffee note, some leather, and a subtle sweetness — like a creme brulee. It’s complex, but never chaotic. Every puff is so savory, and gives you this warm feeling of being in Havana.

The final third shifts again, with more earth, spice, and charred woody aromas. It’s rich, elegant, and you never get a harsh puff — even down to the nub. The draw remains perfect throughout, and the burn line is impressively clean for a Cuban. Not a single correction.

Construction & Performance

Let’s talk about reliability — the D4 is about as consistent as Cuban cigars get. When properly stored, it lights easily, draws smoothly, and burns with little correction needed. The robusto size is ideal for a 45-minute to 1-hour session, making it perfect for both a celebratory event or a weekend luxury after closing a big deal. Nothing like rewarding yourself with a sexy Cuban cigar like the D4.

Final Thoughts

The Partagás Serie D No. 4 isn’t flashy. It doesn’t need to be. It’s confident, classic, and timeless — the kind of cigar that feels like an old friend the moment you light it. It is a commonor in a not-so-common place. Like an old soul you just want to sit with. Whether you're deep in the hobby or just building your humidor, this is a must-have stick.

You don’t smoke a D4 because it’s trendy. You smoke it because it just feels right.
